In every company with several SAP systems, there is a person responsible for the complete SAP Basis topics, usually there is even a separate department for this. This person ensures the trouble-free operation of the SAP systems. The person responsible also accompanies maintenance work or upgrades and intervenes in special situations, such as poor performance. Even for companies that hand over operation of the SAP Basis to an external service provider, there are often tasks from the user and authorization management environment at this point.

This opens up new possibilities for SAP administration. Basic services, for example, can also be rented from SAP or obtained from an external service provider as part of managed services.
Determine bottlenecks
Today, most customers rely on an infrastructure abstraction layer, whether it's VMware or one of the cloud hypervisors. So base administrators need to know how to provision and manage systems in the cloud.

In the past, when we deployed SAP environments, we first had to work out a detailed sizing and architecture and pass it on to the procurement team, which then ordered the systems and installed them in the data center. From there, it went on to the network team, the storage team, the operating system team, and the database team. So it was not uncommon for three to six months to pass between the architecture design and the installation of a new SAP system.
